STEP 1
Open the image you would like to edit in photoshop.

STEP 2
Now zoom in to the hair area and press “Q” to open Quick Mask Mode.
Select the Brush tool “B” and select a soft brush to color in all the hair, please take your time to do this. If you color outside the hair (like parts of the face), dont worry this can be fixed later on. Just make sure you paint all the hair.
I ended up with this: as you can see i painted outside the hair area, but that is not a problem.

STEP 3
Now press “Q” again, and you see a selection of the area you just painted.

Press “M” to open the Rectangular Marquee Tool. Right click the hair and click Select Inverse, right click again and click Layer Via Copy.

You now see two layers, one with the complete picture and one with the selected hair area.

STEP 4
Turn off the Layer Visibility of the photo.

Now you only see the hair selection. As you can see i have painted way more than the hair, so we need to delete the area we dont need, you can do this with “E” the Eraser Tool

STEP 5
Turn the visibility of the background layer back on.
Make sure you have selected Layer 1 “the hair layer” and press “CTRL + B “. This will open the Color Balance panel.
Play with the slides till you are happy with the color. I made the hair dark purple.

STEP 6
Now we will create glossie lips. Zoom in to the lips, create a new layer “CTRL + ALT + N” and open the Polygonal Lasso Tool.

Make a selection around the lips, make sure you have the new layer selected.

Right click the selection, and click “Feather” typ in 3px.

The selection looks a lot smoother now.
Make sure you have set the foreground color to black and press “ALT + DELETE” this will make the selection black.

Now set the Layer mode to “Soft Light” you will notice the lips look a lot darker now.
Now you can play with the opacity to get the result you want.

STEP 7
If you want more gloss effect, select the background picture and open the Dodge Tool “O” set the range to “HighLights” and set the Exposure very low. Now paint the areas where you want more gloss.

Final:

If you take the time you can end up with more precise details.
